About the Fellowship: Advanced Training
After
completing a year of clinical work, geriatric medicine fellows may
seek advanced training according to their specific interests and
goals. The program offers a menu of options for developing skills
in clinical teaching, clinical or basic science research, health
policy and public health, or health administration.
Fellows interested in careers in academic geriatrics may follow a choice of the following pathways:
Clinician Educator Pathway:
- Funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Faculty Development Program
- Advance training in clinical teaching and evidence-based medicine
- Coursework in curriculum design, evaluation, and education research (See http://cfmfacdev.mc.duke.edu/Education.html)
- Close mentoring by clinician educator faculty
- Completion of scholarly project in clinician education
Clinical Researcher Pathway:
- Advance training in clinical research design
- Coursework in biostastics and research ethics (See http://crtp.mc.duke.edu/)
- Close mentoring and collaboration with faculty
- Design and completion of a research project
Fellows may also choose training and mentoring in basic science research, health policy, or business administration through the following programs:
