Geriatrics Fellowship Program

About the Fellowship: Clinical Training: Acute Hospital Care and Consultation

Geriatric Medicine Associates

  • Geriatric Medicine Associates consists of clinical faculty members within the Geriatrics division who admit patients to the General Medicine Services at Duke Hospital and see inpatient consultations.
  • Patients are admitted from our designated life-care communities as well as from the Geriatric Evaluation and Treatment Clinic.
  • Fellows follow the patient in Duke North and serve as a liaison between the team taking care of the patient and the patient's point of origin and attending. (Thus, Fellows may be following patients on the Orthopedic service with hip fracture, as well as patients on General Medicine with acute delirium and dehydration.)

“In addition to teaching Fellows about hospitalized elderly, we have found GMA to be the continuity of care that our elderly patients both need and appreciate.”

    – Anthony Galanos, MD, Medical Director
